How Your Daily Rasi Phal Is Read: Chandrashtama and Tarabala
A daily Rasi Phal is not a guess about your mood. It counts the house the Moon occupies from your own Moon sign, adds the quality of the day's nakshatra and the planets aspecting the Moon. How that works, why one day in every month is Chandrashtama, and how Tarabala — counted from your birth star — gives a second, personal answer.
A Daily Reading Starts From Your Moon Sign
Your రాశి ఫలాలు begin with one number. The Moon moves through all twelve signs in about twenty-seven days, spending roughly two and a quarter days in each. The daily reading counts from your జన్మ రాశి — the sign the Moon occupied when you were born — to the sign the Moon occupies today. That count, from 1 to 12, is the house the Moon is transiting for you. This is చంద్ర గోచారం, the Moon's transit, and it is the backbone of every daily Rasi Phal on MS Astrology.
The Same Sky, Twelve Different Readings
Take one morning. At 6:00 AM in Hyderabad on 20 October 2026 the Moon is in Makara (Capricorn), in Shravana nakshatra, pada 3. Everyone sees the same Moon — but counted from each Moon sign it falls in a different house:
| Your Moon sign | The Moon is in your |
|---|---|
| Mesha | 10th house |
| Vrishabha | 9th house |
| Mithuna | 8th house — Chandrashtama |
| Karkataka | 7th house |
| Simha | 6th house |
| Kanya | 5th house |
| Tula | 4th house |
| Vrischika | 3rd house |
| Dhanu | 2nd house |
| Makara | 1st house |
| Kumbha | 12th house |
| Meena | 11th house |
Each house carries its own reading — the 10th speaks to work and standing, the 4th to home and mother, the 11th to gains and friends. Tradition counts the Moon's transit through the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th and 11th from the Moon sign as favourable, and the 4th, 8th and 12th as the ones to treat with care — the 8th most of all.
Two Layers on Top of the House
The house is the base; two more layers adjust it.
- The day's nakshatra. The 27 nakshatras are grouped as gentle, mixed or intense, and the reading adds that tone. Shravana, on 20 October, is one of the gentle stars.
- The planets aspecting the Moon. Jupiter or Venus in the 5th, 7th or 9th sign from the Moon lend support; Saturn in the 3rd, 7th or 10th asks for discipline; Mars in the 4th, 7th or 8th brings drive with a short temper; Rahu or Ketu in the Moon's sign or opposite it unsettles. On 20 October Jupiter and Venus are both in Karkataka, opposite the Moon, and Saturn is in Meena, the 3rd from it — so the reading for every sign carries Jupiter's and Venus's support and Saturn's call for discipline.
Chandrashtama: The Moon in the 8th
When the Moon transits the 8th sign from your Moon sign, the tradition calls it చంద్రాష్టమం (Chandrashtamam). It comes round about every 27 days, each time the Moon returns to that sign, and lasts as long as the Moon stays there. On 20 October 2026 it belongs to Mithuna: the Moon entered Makara at about 7:33 PM on 18 October and leaves it at about 7:00 AM on 21 October (Hyderabad), so for Mithuna the stretch runs about two and a half days.
The tradition does not treat Chandrashtama as a day of misfortune. It treats it as a day to avoid beginning things — a new venture, a signature, a confrontation — and to keep important decisions for another day. Routine work goes on as usual.
One detail matters: the daily reading takes the Moon's sign at 6:00 AM. On a day the Moon changes sign later in the morning, the reading belongs to the sign it held at dawn — on 21 October, Mithuna's reading still describes the 8th house, though the Moon leaves Makara an hour later.
Tarabala: Counted From Your Birth Star
The Rasi Phal is the same for everyone with one Moon sign. తారాబలం (Tarabala) is more personal: it counts from your జన్మ నక్షత్రం — your birth star — to the day's star, counting both, and takes the remainder on division by nine. The nine taras are Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyari, Sadhaka, Vadha, Mitra and Ati-Mitra; a remainder of zero is the ninth, Ati-Mitra. Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha are the three to be careful with. Because 27 stars run through the nine taras three times, each tara comes round in three rounds (paryayas).
On 20 October 2026 the day's star is Shravana until 6:02 PM. Counted from six birth stars:
| Your birth star | Count to Shravana | Tara | Round |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ashwini | 22 | Kshema | 3rd |
| Bharani | 21 | Vipat | 3rd |
| Krittika | 20 | Sampat | 3rd |
| Mrigashira | 18 | Ati-Mitra | 2nd |
| Punarvasu | 16 | Vadha | 2nd |
| Pushya | 15 | Sadhaka | 2nd |
Reading the Two Together
The two answers are separate, and they can disagree. A native born in the Mithuna half of Mrigashira has Chandrashtama on 20 October but an Ati-Mitra tara — a day to postpone beginnings, with a supportive star. One born in Punarvasu, in the part of the star that falls in Mithuna, has Chandrashtama and a Vadha tara together — the most guarded combination of the two. That is why the tradition reads them side by side, and why neither one alone is a verdict on a day.
Our Tarabala calculator gives your tara for any day from your birth star. The daily Rasi Phal gives the Moon's house for your Moon sign, with the nakshatra and the planets that colour it.
