Saturn Leaves Meena in 2027: Is Your Rasi in Sade Sati?
Saturn has been in Meena since March 2025 and moves into Mesha in 2027 — then slips back before it settles. Which rasis are in ఏళినాటి శని now, whose Sade Sati ends and whose begins, and the dates that decide it.
Where Saturn Stands Now
Saturn — Shani (శని) — entered Meena (Pisces) at the end of March 2025, and by mid-September 2026 it is about eighteen and a half degrees through the sign. That places three rasis in ఏళినాటి శని, the seven and a half years of Sade Sati:
- Kumbha (Aquarius) — the closing phase, Saturn second from the Moon
- Meena (Pisces) — the peak, Saturn over the Moon itself
- Mesha (Aries) — the opening phase, Saturn twelfth from the Moon

The answer is less tidy than most calendars suggest, because in 2027 Saturn crosses into Mesha and then comes back.

The Dates That Decide It
Every date below is Saturn's sidereal (Lahiri) sign change as computed by the Swiss Ephemeris engine behind our panchang: the first day, by Indian time, on which Saturn stands in the new sign. The exact hour differs by location, but the day does not move.

Why Saturn Goes Back
For roughly four and a half months every year, Saturn appears to move backwards through the sky. Nothing in its orbit reverses — the Earth, moving faster on its inside track, overtakes it, and from here Saturn seems to slide back against the stars. That is its vakri (వక్రి), retrograde, period.
Most of the time a retrograde stretch happens in the middle of a sign and changes nothing anyone notices. When it happens close to a sign boundary, Saturn crosses the line, turns, and crosses back. That is exactly what happens in 2027: Saturn reaches Mesha on 3 June, turns retrograde, and slips back into Meena on 20 October before re-entering Mesha on 23 February 2028. It does the same again at the Mesha–Vrishabha boundary in 2029–2030.
The traditional count follows the sign Saturn is actually in. A calendar that marks only the first crossing tells a Kumbha reader their Sade Sati is over in June 2027, when for four more months Saturn is back where it was.
If Your Rasi Is Kumbha
You are in the closing phase, and the finish line is not June 2027. Saturn leaves Meena on 3 June, returns on 20 October, and only leaves for good on 23 February 2028. Plan the things you have been postponing "until Sade Sati ends" around the later date, not the earlier one.
If Your Rasi Is Meena
You are in the peak until 3 June 2027, when Saturn moves to your second house and the closing phase begins. From 20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028 Saturn is over your Moon once more, and then the closing phase resumes. Your Sade Sati finally ends on 17 April 2030, after one more brief return in late 2029.
If Your Rasi Is Mesha
You are in the opening phase. Saturn reaches your Moon on 3 June 2027, steps back into your twelfth house from 20 October 2027, and returns over the Moon on 23 February 2028 — the real start of your peak, which runs until August 2029 and comes back once more from 5 October 2029 to 17 April 2030, when your Sade Sati moves into its closing phase for good.
If Your Rasi Is Vrishabha
Your Sade Sati begins with Saturn's first entry into Mesha on 3 June 2027, pauses while Saturn is back in Meena, and starts in earnest on 23 February 2028.
Ashtama and Ardhashtama Move Too
The two shorter Saturn transits described in our article on Ashtama and Ardhashtama Shani shift on the same dates. While Saturn is in Meena, Simha has Saturn eighth from the Moon (అష్టమ శని) and Dhanu has it fourth (అర్ధాష్టమ శని). When Saturn is in Mesha, those pass to Kanya and Makara — with the same return to Simha and Dhanu between 20 October 2027 and 23 February 2028.
A Date Is Not a Verdict
A date tells you when a transit changes. It does not tell you what the transit will do, and two people of the same rasi can live the same dates very differently. What decides that is in the birth chart alone:
- how strong and well placed Saturn is in your own chart
- the dasha running underneath the transit
- Saturn's ashtakavarga support in the sign it is passing through
- the houses and planets Saturn touches from there
A Sade Sati that ends on paper in February 2028 can feel over a year earlier for one person and linger for another. Reading that is chart work, not calendar work.
