What Are the Navaratna?

The Navaratna (nava = nine, ratna = gem) are the nine sacred gemstones of Vedic astrology, one for each of the nine Navagrahas. Wearing the right stone is believed to strengthen a weak but benefic planet in your birth chart, while the wrong stone can amplify troubles — which is why tradition insists on chart analysis before wearing any of them.

How a Stone Works

A gemstone acts like a filter that strengthens its planet’s rays. That is why quality matters so much: the stone must be natural, untreated, of adequate carat weight, and worn touching the skin in the correct metal on the correct finger. A treated or synthetic stone is considered astrologically inert.

Choosing Your Stone

Never choose a navaratna by your Sun sign alone. The correct method examines your Lagna, the planet’s role in your chart, and the current Dasha period. A stone for a functional malefic can do more harm than good.
