Which Rudraksha for Which Planet: A Mukhi Guide from 1 to 14

A rudraksha is named by its ముఖి, the natural faces on the bead, and each count answers to a planet and a deity. The traditional table from 1 to 14 mukhi with Telugu names, the beads that belong to no planet, how a bead is matched to a birth star, a rasi or a concern, and the one rule that makes rudraksha different from gemstones.

Counting the Faces

A రుద్రాక్ష (rudraksha) is the dried seed of the Elaeocarpus tree, and the lines that run from its top to its bottom divide it into natural segments called ముఖి (mukhi), faces. A bead with five such lines is a పంచ ముఖి, five-faced — by far the commonest, which is why it is the one most people have seen. Beads from one to fourteen faces are the counts the tradition works with, and each count is assigned a presiding deity and, for the first nine, one of the nine planets — the నవగ్రహాలు.

That assignment is the whole reason to choose one bead over another. A rudraksha is worn for the planet it answers to, and the planet is chosen from your chart.

One Rule Before the Table

The tradition Mrs. Madhavi Sharma follows opens with a reassurance worth repeating before any table: no rudraksha combination is harmful, and any mukhi may be worn by anyone. What follows is what tradition suits to a person, not a restriction, and the fear of picking a "wrong" bead is misplaced.

That is the practical difference from a gemstone. A stone strengthens the planet it belongs to, so it is prescribed only after the chart shows that planet should be strengthened — the wrong stone can work against you, which is why a gemstone is chosen from the birth chart. A rudraksha carries no such caution. It is the gentler remedy, and the one an astrologer can suggest without a full-chart verdict.

The Planet Table

Two planets have more than one bead. The Sun is served by the twelve-faced ద్వాదశ ముఖి (Surya's own bead, carrying the twelve forms of the Sun) and the eleven-faced ఏకాదశ ముఖి (Hanuman's) as well as the one-faced; Saturn by the fourteen-faced చతుర్దశ ముఖి, the rarest of the common counts, as well as the seven. They are alternatives, not upgrades.

Beyond the Nine Planets

Four beads in the catalogue belong to no single planet.

• దశ ముఖి (10) — Vishnu's bead, representing the ten directions. With no ruling planet of its own it is said to balance all nine, and is kept for protection from negative energy, for relief from fear, worry and disturbed sleep, and in legal or Vastu matters.
• త్రయోదశ ముఖి (13) — Indra and Kamadeva: attraction, persuasion and the fulfilment of long-held wishes. Rare and sought after.
• గౌరీశంకర — two beads naturally grown together, the union of Shiva and Parvati. Kept by couples for marital harmony and for healing distance, for blessings around childbirth, and for peace in the household.
• గణేశ రుద్రాక్ష — identified by a natural trunk-like protrusion. Kept for removing unseen obstacles in stuck work, for new beginnings — a venture, a job, a home — and by students for concentration before examinations.

Three Ways the Bead Is Matched to You

The tradition names the bead from three directions, and they do not always agree.

By birth star. Every nakshatra is ruled by one of the nine planets in the Vimshottari order — Ashwini by Ketu, Bharani by Venus, Krittika by the Sun, and so on around the zodiac — and the bead of that planet is the first and most personal answer. Someone born under Pushyami (Saturn) is pointed to the seven-faced bead; someone born under Rohini (Moon) to the two-faced. Our guide to the 27 nakshatras lists each star's lord.

By concern. A person rarely arrives asking about a planet; they arrive asking about a job, a marriage, an examination, a debt. The tradition maps those too: career and money to the seven-faced bead of Mahalakshmi, relationships to the two-faced, education and mental peace to the four-faced, health and vitality to the five-faced, protection and peace of mind to the ten-faced — with Ganesh rudraksha added for stuck work and examinations, and Gaurishankar for a marriage.

By rasi. The Moon sign has its own lord and, in the tradition's table, its own planets for money: Mesha is pointed to the three- and five-faced beads, Vrishabha to four, six and seven, Simha to one, three and twelve. When the star and the rasi disagree, the birth star is the stronger signal.

What It Is, and What It Is Not

A rudraksha is a traditional spiritual remedy. It is not medical, financial or psychological treatment, and no bead promises an outcome; the tradition's body associations — the two-faced bead with digestion, the four-faced with the lungs and thyroid, the seven-faced with mental tension — are traditional, not clinical. What the bead offers is a discipline: a planet's remedy worn daily, chosen with some care rather than at random.
